After reading New times, new literacies. (Education Queensland, 2004) I believe there are three top questions/ issues that educators need to address:1. Define which are the critical literacy skills that are essential for the 21st century learners and explore ways of how they could be integrated effectively within the current curriculum.2. Craft strategies to effectively address the diversity and disparity of literacy levels in an ever changing an... [read more]

Thank you everyone for your participation in this Crowd Vine site. The time has now come to CLOSE the activities on this site (the site is designed as a "conference site") and move to a more permanent community site. Since we are all in the education field a logical fit is the AKO Aotearoa site (Link: http://akoaotearoa.ac.nz/) and we would invite you all to join this community. If you are already a member of AKO you can automatically join the co... [read more]

Jaci Petherick posted Excellent E-Learning Symposia

Thank you to everyone who put this great day together. I really enjoyed Sue's ideas and the effort all speakers put in making this a really worthwhile day. I have taken away a lot to think about and hope I will have the opportunity to utilise the wisdom of you all for the students of Thames.

I thoroughly enjoyed your presentation yesterday Richard. You're a funny man (and possibly a little disturbed). I like that.

Dave Morrissey left a note for John Clayton

Hi John, I really enjoyed yesterdays's symposium and am quite excited at the prospect of moving our courses forward, as far as online provision is concerned. Obviously there will be many challenges in front of us but I look forward to them. Do you have any idea of who I might contact in the Ag' department over there to compare few notes?

Sarah-Jane Saravani posted Web v LMS

Just a thought to see what others think - given the plethora of management systems that we are all tied into and which all need to interface wtih a least one other (usually incompatible) system, should be be biting the bullet and going all out for Web software, much free in a variety of ways, an dleaving expensive, cumbersome LMSs to the twentieth century?

Sue Bennett: Hi Sarah-Jane, I heard lots of discussion about this idea of late. I think a key concern in institutions is about IP. A lot of the 'free' tools come with a hidden price tag in that they claim ownership over any content which staff and students create... [read more]

What are peoples impressions of QR Codes. Do we all know what they are, what they can do? John

Michele Mason: Thanks for this John, I had never heard of QR codes before so looked them up on the net and found a fairly good description, well one I could understand, in Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QR_Code
John Clayton: Thanks for the information Michele.
Teresa Gibbison: Hi John I'm keen to see QR codes all around the place, as is my colleague Dean. I was surprised I didn't see or hear any mention of them at eTLC09 or ULearn09 and when tweeting in Christchurch only one other attendee noticed and responded. To demonst... [read more]
